ABOUT
NAPOLEON is a collectively-run project space located in Philadelphia that strives to provide a platform for new work and new ideas.
Started in the summer of 2011, NAPOLEON was simply a lease to a small room in a great building and a lot of unfettered energy. Within a couple months, the experiment sprouted legs.
NAPOLEON has ten members who share the financial and managerial responsibilities of running the gallery. On a rotational basis, each member is responsible for putting on a month-long show in which they can show their own work, curate, or do some combination of the two. As we enter our second year, we are looking to elongate that cycle so there will be more months of the year in which we, as a group, can create exhibitions that will serve our mission statement and increase the collaboration and dialogue within our group of young artists and curators.
We are located in the Rollins Building which houses other galleries such as Vox Populi, Tiger Strikes Asteroid, Marginal Utility, Practice, and Grizzly Grizzly. NAPOLEON is named for our small size. We are a 225 square foot gallery and our floor plan can be seen here with an accompanying slideshow of images of the gallery between shows.
While we are small, we are mighty.
As you can see from our press page, our gallery gets a lot of attention despite being new to the Philadelphia art scene.
