“Far More Real is a group show from the members of the NAPOLEON Collective in Philadelphia that examines the work of each artist-member through Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.” The title is drawn from a conversation in which Glaucon responds to Plato’s description of a prisoner in a cave being freed from his bonds and seeing light for the first time. Each object falls under one of four stages illuminated in the Allegory—Imagination, Belief, Thought, and Understanding—which represent the progression of human experience. The intention of this group show is not only an intellectual exercise – to individually explore a topic of interest and research within our own practices that aligns with a central theme, but also of fellowship – to bring all of our members together for a common creative project.” – Liza Coviello, writer and NAPOLEON member
