Lucia Thomé: Solo Summer

Solo Summer
Napoleon member H. John Thompson hosts Philadelphia artist Lucia Thomé
‘Solo Summer’ is a body of work mostly made during the summer months of 2016. The works are vignettes of experiences and memories both made and imagined from a summer spent alone. The solo-ness of this summer is an adventure into independence in which Thomé asks the following questions; “What do I actually do when I can do what ever I want, eat when ever I want, and make a mess where ever I want?”
Works in this exhibition reveal an approach that relies upon a trust in intuition and impulse. Thomé reflects upon and interprets the taste of summer evenings and the winding repetitiveness of each day by building, cutting, and hot gluing. Embedded into the physicality of objects, Thomé reveals the struggle or compliance of materials through a transparent process as Solo Summer presents a record of an artist figuring things out in the studio and a changed daily rhythm.
