Through sites of intimate exchange, Spitting Distance examines the socio-politico-cultural salience of deviance as a mode for navigating the world.
Keenan Bennett (he, they) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia. They hold an MFA from University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Studio Art from St. Olaf College. They are currently a member of Practice Gallery and committeeperson at William Way LGBT Community Center Arts Committee of the Board of Directors. They have exhibited work at Pearlstein Gallery, Fjord Gallery, Little Berlin Annex, Space 1026, and New Boon(e), Philadelphia PA; Viridian Artists and The Greenpoint Gallery, New York NY; and MAMA Gallery, Los Angeles CA. Their participatory performance project Service Art was awarded a First Night grant by FIGMENT twice, in 2013 and 2014. They have attended artist residencies at Vermont Studio Center, Johnson VT; Officina Stamperia Del Notaio, Tusa IT; Ox-Bow, Saugatuck MI; The Church Studios, Philadelphia PA; Laboratory, Spokane WA; and Wassaic Project, Wassaic NY.
Heather Raquel Phillips is an interdisciplinary artist & independent curator living and working in Philadelphia. Phillips received her BFA from Tyler School of Art (2008) and her MFA from University of Pennsylvania (2016) where she was the recipient of the prestigious Toby Devon Lewis Fellowship & the Stuart Egnal Scholarship. She has exhibited in LA, Philadelphia, NYC, Washington D.C. & Chicago.Phillips is a lecturer in the fine arts department at the Stuart Weizman School of Design at The University of Pennsylvania & The Lincoln University, a member of the artist run space, NAPOLEON & a recipient of The Leeway Foundation Art and Change Grant. She is 2019 Visiting Scholar at the Leather Archives & Museum in Chicago.
